A broken elevator at a Yonkers senior housing complex has been causing complications.

For the seniors living at Trinity Apartments in Yonkers, it can be difficult to take the stairs of the four-story complex. However, residents say the building's only elevator has been out of service for nearly a week.

Signs on the elevator tell the residents to take the stairs instead, but the complex houses seniors 55 years and older, many of whom have medical problems.

Resident Robert Patton has survived multiple strokes and suffers from asthma. He says it knocks the wind out of him to walk the four flights of stairs to his apartment each day.

Milio Management Group maintains the building, and says a power surge caused an outage in and along the block of the apartments.

The property manager says an essential piece of the elevator broke.

"It was a circuit board that was essentially fried, I guess, from the power outage. There's no other way to physically make that elevator work. This specially made board I believe is coming from Texas,” says property manager Franco Milio.

He says he hopes the piece will come by Monday so the elevators can get back and running by Tuesday.
