More than a dozen people forced out of their Nyack home after flames tore through it are looking to start over, and the community is working to help them.
The fire broke out at a house at 3 Waldron Ave. Tuesday morning. The homeowner's wife, 61-year-old Jarnail Kaur, was found dead inside the house.
Fourteen other residents, including four children, comprising four families were displaced.
The residents are reaching out to their community for help after being left with little after the fire. Donations can be dropped off at the Mission Church on South Broadway in Nyack.
Nyack officials say the single-family house was illegally divided into four apartments, creating dangerous living conditions. The village will be issuing multiple code violations against the homeowner.
