According to a new report, some Yonkers teachers are making too much in overtime pay.
The study by Inspector General Dan Schorr found inconsistencies and problematic explanations as to why people are paid overtime. Schorr says many of the overtime rule exceptions happen during the summer and on weekends. As a result, some Yonkers teachers are making well beyond the $15,000 overtime cap in the financially struggling district.
The Board of Education, however, says there is no substance to the report. School Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio says the district saved nearly $1.5 million on overtime in the past year alone.
The Yonkers teachers? union president, Pat Puleo, also criticized the report claiming the Schorr misinterpreted the data.
It is unclear at this point whether the school district will act on the inspector general?s call to change its overtime policies.
