A new report released Wednesday says New York City’s minimum pay rate for app-based delivery workers has increased earnings by more than $2 billion since enforcement began in Dec. 2023.
The data shows that hourly earnings, including tips, rose from $10.48 to $27.03 through June 2026.
Other key findings from the report include a spike in overall weekly deliveries and increased worker productivity.
Commissioner Samuel A.A. Levine and the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection say the findings highlight the importance of labor standards for workers in the app-based economy.
The report also concluded that higher pay did not reduce the demand for delivery services, citing a 29% increase in weekly restaurant deliveries and a 45% increase in weekly consumer spending on restaurant deliveries.
A release announcing the report also states that the DCWP plans to start enforcing deactivation protections in January 2027.
Officials say this will prohibit app-based delivery services from deactivating workers without just cause.
