New Rochelle police are investigating reports of a fight between an Iona College student and a basketball coach.
Online news outlet Stadium says that Roland Griffin, a senior forward for the Iona basketball team, admitted to punching assistant coach Garfield Johns after the coach allegedly tackled him.
Police tell News 12 they're looking into reports of an altercation between Griffin and Johns.
Students at Iona College say they stand with Griffin, who was kicked off the basketball team last week and suspended from class until summer 2020. They also say they're shocked Griffin, the student, is the one in trouble.
"Iona College takes all matters of health and safety seriously. We take every action necessary to ensure the well-being of the members of our community," the school says in a statement.
Students say if Griffin was defending himself, they hope to see him on campus again soon.
