Rep. Nita Lowey marked National Small Business Week with visit to the Bella Vita Deli in Congers to stump for legislation that would protect small businesses from credit card companies.
The legislation, called the Small Business Credit Card Act, would prevent arbitrary interest rate hikes and deceptive practices.
Lowey has introduced the bill to Congress before, where it’s failed to garner enough support, but she’s not giving up the fight.
“Credit card companies have a lot of power, and we just have to shame them if they are taking advantage of hardworking meatball makers and delis like this,” said Lowey.
