Democratic incumbent Rep. Nita Lowey faced off against her Republican challenger Chris Day in the 17th Congressional District debate on News 12 Wednesday.
Newcomer Day is looking to defeat Lowey, who is running for her 14th term. Day accused Lowey of not getting enough done, pointing out 85 percent of congressional districts get more money than the 17th. Lowey responded by telling Day there are more than 240 Republicans in Congress and he will not be able to change the dynamic.
The two discussed other topics, including Westchester's affordable housing settlement and gun control. Both candidates agreed that universal background checks are needed and do not violate citizens' Second Amendment rights.
