There are renewed environmental concerns about alleged illegal dumping in the Hasidic Village of Kiryas Joel.
Concerned viewers told News 12 Hudson Valley that the conditions along Nicklesburg Road were bad. News 12 found plastic bags, loose trash, empty food pallets and piles of concrete construction debris.
A worker said off camera that the storage container and food pallets belong to a nearby store, but that the trash and construction debris do not. A neighbor and community activist said the trash is leftover debris from Passover that the village will clean up.
As News 12 drove around to other areas of Kiryas Joel, they found similar amounts of garbage in wooded areas as well.
The village, which has been fined by the DEC for environmental concerns before, is looking to double in size. Critics are concerned that if it happens, the alleged dumping there will only get worse.
