Red light cameras are coming to Mount Vernon.
The city currently has two cameras installed at Sanford Boulevard and Garden Avenue, and at East Lincoln Avenue and Darwood Place. Anyone caught running a red light before Jan. 15 will receive a warning in the mail.
After Jan. 15, the warning period ends and ticketing will begin. Red light tickets will cost $50.
Two additional camera locations will be installed at South Columbus Avenue and MLK Boulevard, and East Sanford Boulevard and South Fulton Avenue.
A red light violation will occur when an entire vehicle crosses the intersection's line after the traffic signal turns red. Technicians at American Traffic Solutions will oversee the violation images before a Mount Vernon police officer makes a final determination if a ticket is warranted.
