For the
first ever, a gallon of regular gas now costs an average of $5 nationwide, and
drivers are struggling harder than ever to pay.
AAA says
gas prices have been rising steadily for the past eight weeks and this latest
surge marks the 15th straight day of record-high prices.

Even though state and county
officials suspended the gas taxes, energy experts say these prices will
continue to climb.
AAA says the following tips might help you
save a little at the pump:
- Wait until your gas gauge gets to a
quarter tank before filling up in warmer weather. Your car gets
better gas mileage with a lighter load, so they say keeping the tank full
can waste money.
- Avoid filling up right before a holiday
or weekend when gas prices tend to be higher.
- Plan ahead, try to map out a route
and combine running errands to help limit your drive time.
- If you are an aggressive drivers,
and have a heavy foot on the gas - learn to back off. AAA
says you're burning more fuel.
- It's also important to shop around.
Look for the cheapest prices near your home or work.
- Think about carpooling, even
if it's a trip to the grocery store. Maybe you and your neighbors go at
the same time.
