A report of a student with a weapon prompted a lockdown at Irvington Middle and High Schools on Monday.

Police said that the item recovered was a BB gun that was highly realistic.

According to the school district, the school went into lockdown at around 11:22 a.m. after officials received a report that a student on campus had a weapon.

Irvington police and school administrators checked every classroom to ensure students and staff were safe.

By 11:45 a.m., the district shifted to a "hold in place." That restriction was lifted minutes later.

Through an investigation, police say they recovered a black BB gun that closely resembled a real firearm.

The district said the student involved is a 14-year-old out-of-district student enrolled in a BOCES program located in the building.

Police say no threats were made by the student during the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the school community.
