Real estate heir and millionaire Robert Durst was arrested in New Orleans on a murder warrant from Los Angeles, according to his attorney.
The warrant and arrest stem from the investigation into the death of Durst's friend, Susan Berman. She was found dead of a gunshot wound in her Los Angeles home in 2000.
Durst first made headlines in 1971, when his wife, Kathie, vanished from their former South Salem home. His wife was never found.
The 71-year-old Durst was found not guilty in 2001 in the dismemberment death of his Galveston neighbor, Morris Black. Durst said he acted in self-defense.
Durst's attorney, Dick DeGuerin, told News 12 that he is on his way to New Orleans to put the legal team together.
Durst is also the subject of an HBO documentary series, "The Jinx," about his suspected involvement in three murders.
In the finale that aired Sunday evening, Durst was asked about similarities in handwriting in a letter he wrote and another linked to one of the killings. Later, filmmakers said Durst wore his microphone into the bathroom.
What followed was a bizarre rambling in which Durst said, apparently to himself, "There it is. You're caught" and "What the hell did I do? Killed them all of course."
The show ended, and it wasn't clear whether producers confronted Durst about the secretly recorded words, or what Durst meant by them.
There is no word on the exact charges that Durst is facing. He is expected to appear in court Monday.
