Rat race: Report ranks New York as second 'rattiest city' in US
New York City moved up the ladder this year when it comes to being the "rattiest city," according to a new survey from pest control experts Orkin.
Chicago remained the "rattiest," but New York beat out Los Angeles this year to secure the No. 2 ranking.
Two other New York cities, Albany and Buffalo, were included in the Top 40.
Newly included this year were New York’s neighbors in Hartford, CT, which ranked 19th for "rattiest" city.
Orkin said it ranked metro regions by the number of new rodent treatments performed from Sept. 1, 2021, to Aug. 31, 2022, and includes both residential and commercial treatments.
The company says it's prime time to see rodents as they typically enter homes between October and February looking for food, water and shelter from the cold.
It added that due to "the influx of outdoor dining structures brought on by the pandemic, rodents have found the perfect place to dine, live and multiply, so consumers should pay extra attention to the attractants that entice rats and mice"
