County officials have revealed that Westchester's Winter Wonderland has come back this year with a brand-new ice rink courtesy of the New York Rangers.
The 70-by-90-foot rink is being built right in the middle of the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. It is approximately twice the size of last year's rink - changes made after feedback from residents.
"Last year, we started Winter Wonderland and it was great, but we thought it could be improved upon and the biggest complaint we got is that the rink was too small," says County Executive Rob Astorino.
The rink will be named "Rangerstown" after the team and players who made it possible, like alums Dave Maloney and Ron Greschner.
The Rangers and Madison Square Garden says the ice rink is the perfect way to give back to the community. Winter Wonderland will offer photos with star players, free hockey sessions and giveaways. Rides, holiday shopping and the chance to meet Santa will also be part of the festivities.
The Winter Wonderland is sponsored in part by News 12. It will run from Nov. 27 to Jan. 3.
