The New York Rangers are getting set for some frigid conditions as they take their game outdoors on New Year's Day.
New York is set to take on the Buffalo Sabres at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, Monday as part of the NHL's 10th Winter Classic.
This is the first outdoor game held in New York City since 2014, when the Rangers played both the Islanders and Devils at Yankee Stadium.
"I remember last game, it was at Yankees Stadium, it was really cold," said Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. "It was fine for us players. I think it's a big part of having a great day, it's for the fans."
Rangers defenseman and New Rochelle native Kevin Shattenkirk is no stranger to the Winter Classic, having played in it last year with the St. Louis Blues.
"I went to a lot of games at Shea Stadium and have been to some at Citi Field games, and knowing what it's going to be like and then to play at home is just an added bonus," said Shattenkirk.
Tens of thousands are expected to be on hand in Queens Monday for the game's 1 p.m. start time.
