One of the victims killed in an attack on a Jerusalem synagogue Tuesday has ties to the Bronx.
Rabbi Mosheh Twersky was a member of a prominent rabbinical family and the head of a religious seminary for English-speaking students. Twersky's sister and brother-in-law live in Riverdale.
Twersky's brother-in-law, Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblatt, is the senior rabbi at the Riverdale Jewish Center. He says Twersky was a gifted and beloved teacher who had been in Israel for the past 30 years.
Twersky was in morning prayers when two Palestinian attackers stormed the synagogue with knives, axes and a gun.
The attackers were killed by police. Israeli's prime minister has ordered that the homes of the attackers be demolished.
The NYPD and the FBI say they are working together to monitor any developments in Israel that may affect the borough. They say as of now, there is no credible threat to New York.
