A rabbi has taken legal action against the Town of Ramapo and its supervisor regarding the continued flying of the Israeli flag.

Leibish Iliovits filed a complaint in State Supreme Court in Rockland County, citing discomfort among members of the Hasidic community with the flag's presence.

Iliovits argues that flying the flag violates the state Constitution and infringes upon his First Amendment rights of freedom of speech. He emphasizes his affiliation with a sect that rejects recognition of Israel and its flag.

Ramapo's town supervisor refrained from commenting on the lawsuit, noting that the town has not yet been formally served with legal papers.
