A rabbi accused of sexually assaulting a young boy appeared in a Rockland County court Monday.
Rabbi Moshe Taubenfeld allegedly molested a 9-year-old boy over a five-year span. The boy had seen Taubenfeld for counseling after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Last July, News 12 spoke with Taubenfeld's accuser, who is referred to as "Laiby." He said the rabbi, a father of 20, molested him in his study.
Two police officers testified in court - one an investigator for the District Attorney's Office, the other an investigator with the Ramapo Police Department.
The victim's father also testified.
Taubenfeld's lawyer, Gerard Damiani claims that the alleged incidents happened so long ago that, if they did occur, the statute of limitations has expired.
Under the state statutes of limitations, prosecutors have five years to file charges, from the date the last assault is reported or the day a minor turns 18.
The hearing has been adjourned until Jan. 28. There is no word on when the judge will issue a ruling on whether the statute of limitations has expired.
