A Putnam Valley man died Saturday after hitting another car head-on near the Westchester-Putnam border.
State police say 68-year-old Frank Cassar was heading to work when he lost control of his car on Oscawanna Lake Road. Investigators think Cassar may have had a heart attack when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and smashed an SUV driven by 59-year-old Renato Bruschi, of Olive Bridge. Bruschi told police he saw the car swerving and tried to get out of the way when it came toward him.
Cassar was pronounced dead at Hudson Valley Hospital. Bruschi was treated for fractured ribs. Police say there have been at least three accidents in the past four months in the same area. Investigators say the rainy weather may have also contributed to the crash.
