Police have arrested a suspect in the SUNY Purchase hate crime case.

New York State University Police say Raymond Turchioe, 18, of Manhattan, was located on campus and taken into custody. Turchioe, a student at the school, was charged with aggravated harassment.

Racially charged epithets, including swastikas and nooses, were found scribbled across dorm room walls at the campus. The offensive images first appeared March 18 and again on March 20.

According to the criminal complaint against him, authorities allege Turchioe intended to alarm students living at the dorm. The dorm where the swastikas were found is occupied by many students of the Jewish faith, officials say.

Police are still trying to find the person or persons responsible for painting the nooses on the walls. "Their work is not done, and even when that person is found, what is the college administration prepared to do to help in the healing process and support the college community to move forward from here?" asks Port Chester NAACP President Joan Grandgenois-Thomas.
