Purchase College hosts annual 5K honoring slain student
Students at Purchase College spent their Sunday walking and running to raise money for the Lindsey Bonistall Foundation.
Lindsey Bonistall, of White Plains, was murdered at her off-campus apartment while attending the University of Delaware in 2005.
Over a decade after her death, Bonistall's family continues to keep her memory alive by holding an annual 5K at Purchase College. They say the event combines her interests like running, being outside and being active in the community.
Bonistall's family says they are working to try and reduce the risk of victimization for college students.
"We feel we can reduce those numbers of victims," said Bonistall's mother, Kathleen Bonistall. "And if we can we reduce the number by one, then we have done our job."
Kathleen Bonistall and the rest of the family are now advocates for student safety with the Peace Outside Campus Foundation.
