Public Service Commission announces expanded probe into billing errors for NYSEG customers

It comes after the NYPSC declared earlier this month it's also investigating Central Hudson's billing practices.

The state’s Public Service Commission announced Wednesday it is expanding its investigation into billing errors for New York State Electric & Gas customers.
It comes after the NYPSC declared earlier this month it's also investigating Central Hudson's billing practices.
The Department of Public Services says it saw an unusual spike in the number of customer complaints – 60% more in 2022 than in the two previous years combined. The complaints range from incorrect bills to very late bills.
"It was an error on their part," said Yorktown's Ali O'Brien, whose billing error that NYSEG had to adjust by more than $500. "Why? And had I not called, and they just expected me to pay it? For what reason?"
"Addressing billing issues continues to be a top priority, and we are committed to ensuring customer bills are sent out timely and accurately. said Avangrid Spokesperson Alexis Arnold.
Customers can still submit complaints, but the DPS advises people should try to resolve the issue with the utility. If unsuccessful, people should get in touch with the office of consumer services to file a complaint.  
The Department's Consumer Advocate will host a series of public forums in affected areas starting in January as part of the investigation.
Dates and locations haven't been set yet.
