Suez, a water and waste recycling company in West Nyack, is looking to move into a new home, but the relocation is stirring up controversy.
What may be the final public hearing on the matter was held in Clarkstown Town Hall Wednesday.
Due to increased demand for its services, Suez has said it has outgrown its home on West Nyack Road and that it would like to move its operations to Old Mill Road - right off of the Lake DeForest Reservoir.
A Suez official says they've begun work on an existing building and have applied to build a garage and pave a parking lot for their trucks.
Neighbors are worried about runoff in the reservoir and destroying the wooded area.
Some of the trees have already been torn down in order to complete sewer work, which according to Clarkstown officials, was well within the limits of the permit given to Suez.
People are also concerned about their drinking water, property values and congestion.
Attendees demanded an environmental impact study be done before Suez continues work on their new headquarters. The vote on the study was deadlocked 3-3.
