A public ceremony for the inauguration of Zohran Mamdani has kicked off on the steps of City Hall.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered opening remarks for the inauguration.
“Together this marks a new era for New York City, lead by a historic new mayor in Zohran Mamdani, guided by his dedication to a working class that makes our beautiful city run,” said Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez went on to proclaim “Zohran will be a mayor for all of us.”
Meanwhile, his supporters crowded the Canyon of Heroes for an accompanying block party.

Mamdani has made history as the city’s first Muslim mayor at 34-years-old.
It also makes him the city’s youngest mayor in more than 100 years.
Mamdani ran a campaign on promises of creating a universal childcare program, freezing rent for 2 million tenants and making city buses fast and free.
