Cornwall residents say they are frustrated over what they say is an "illegal" day camp being built in their backyard.

The new owner of a large property on Boulder Drive is under investigation for allegedly ignoring town codes and starting a camp.

James, a neighbor who took videos and photos of the apparent camp, went to Town Hall on Friday to file a complaint with the town.

"They're not following the rules," he says. "They've not been given a special permit. It's meant to be a residence."

Online county records show the 12-acre property, which contains a pool and tennis court, was purchased for nearly $1 million in December by Monroe-based LLC, "Special Camp Yedidim."

The town told News 12 that it denied the buyer's application to turn the space into a camp in November.

"We've said to that developer right up front – 'We're not looking to do individual changes,'" said Town Supervisor Richard Randazzo.

Officials say they're investigating if the town's decisions and codes are being ignored.

News 12 tried to speak to the property owner but did not get a response.

Town officials say they are aware of at least one complaint, which the Building Department is now investigating.
