Power restored to Monsey residents following car crash into utility pole

The Monsey Fire Department said the single-car crash happened on Route 59 near Robert Pitt Drive.

Power was restored to hundreds of Monsey residents after a car crash involving a utility pole left them in the dark Friday night.
The Monsey Fire Department said the single-car crash happened on Route 59 near Robert Pitt Drive.
The Spring Hill Ambulance Corps also responded to the scene.
The Monsey Fire Department said the telephone pole was struck, causing it to split and fall over. The pole had three transformers, two of which began to leak fluid all over the road.
The fire department said that fluid caught on fire.
News 12 was told the driver was transported to a nearby hospital but there was no word on their condition as of Friday night.
No other injuries were reported.
The cleanup process was under way as of Friday night. Orange & Rockland crews were on the scene to reset the pole.
It as not immediately clear when the cleanup would be completed.
Drivers were still being advised to avoid the area as of Friday night.
