Politics in Westchester and the Hudson Valley
This week, we're covering the biggest political storylines in Westchester and the Hudson Valley.
This includes a decision on the future of even-year elections in New York, new bills in Congress, meetings in Albany to address housing and public safety and more.
Tax season
The IRS is sounding the alarm about scams and fraud schemes targeting you this tax filing season.
Special Agent in Charge of Criminal Investigations for the IRS in New York, Harry Chavis, sat down with our Rich Barrabi to discuss how scammers are trying to take advantage of you and what you can do about it.
"You always want a trustworthy preparer who will put their name on the tax return as well as their preparer tax identification number," Chavis said. "If they're not willing to put that on the return and they're not willing to sign the return, that's a red flag."
New Quinnipiac University poll
This week, Quinnipiac University released a fresh poll taking a look at everything from the war with Iran to the midterms.
A plurality of voters (42%) think the war with Iran will make the world less safe, while 35% think it will make the world safer and 20% think it will make no difference, but there are sharp partisan divides.
Among Republicans, 79% think the war with Iran will make the world safer, while among Democrats, 2% agree.
38% of voters approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president, while 56% disapprove, essentially unchanged from Quinnipiac University's March 9, 2026 poll.
If the election were held today, 51% of voters would want to see the Democratic Party win control of the United States House of Representatives, while 40% would want to see the Republican Party win control of the House.
Given a list of 11 personal financial concerns and asked which is the biggest one for them right now, healthcare costs (21%) top the list for voters, followed by food costs (13%), mortgage or rent payments (13%), gas prices (11%) and retirement savings (10%).
