A City of Poughkeepsie police officer is retiring early after an injury.
Police Officer Devon Zanin was honored with a retirement walk out Monday after nearly a decade of service.
She was hurt in an attack in 2020 as she and her partner responded to a domestic violence related call.
Zanin has had multiple surgeries for a herniated disc in her neck and a torn labrum in her right shoulder.
During the attack, a man stabbed Officer Edwin Acken in the neck with a screwdriver.
Both officers were honored for their work.
Zanin was a field training officer, crime scene technician, and a county law enforcement academy instructor in procedural justice, physical fitness and crisis intervention.
"She was a member of the Domestic Abuse Response Team and the Sexual Assault Response Team and also served on the city's Procedural Justice Committee. Officer Zanin also was an active member of the City of Poughkeepsie PBA and served on the executive board for 5 years.
The city wishes Zanin well in retirement and thanks her for her service which went above and beyond the call of duty," City of Poughkeepsie Police wrote in a Facebook post.
