Poughkeepsie police: Fugitive sought in burglary arrested

Town of Ulster Police had notified the officers that Walter Shuster III was wanted on an active felony arrest for burglary in the third degree.

Police in the City of Poughkeepsie say they arrested a fugitive on Saturday who was wanted for burglary.
Officers observed 45-year-old Walter Shuster III around 1 p.m. driving a vehicle in the area of Maple Street and Smith Street.
Town of Ulster Police had notified the officers that Shuster was wanted on an active felony arrest for burglary in the third degree.
As officers initiated a traffic stop, Shuster tried to leave the area and struck multiple vehicles before his vehicle became disabled.
The responding officers then took Shuster into custody.     
He now faces additional charges that include unlawful fleeing, reckless driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
No serious injuries were reported.
