yesterdayPolice say a 15-year-old female was charged with making shooting threats on social media that caused Poughkeepsie middle and high schools to go to remote learning for the past three days.
Police say the teen is charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony. She was issued an appearance ticket for Dutchess County Family Court and released to her parents.
The arrest follows the earlier identification of an 11-year-old City of Poughkeepsie girl who allegedly made a separate threat against district schools Tuesday.
That child was also issued an appearance ticket for Dutchess County Family Court.
The two incidents were not connected, and both students will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the district's code of conduct.
"These social media threats have added to the complexity of a challenging year where school administrators, teachers, and staff have been working extremely hard to acclimate all students back into the school environment. Recognizing that the social and emotional needs of students across the country have escalated due to the implication of the global pandemic, PCSD continues to adapt our supports to address their needs," says Superintendent Dr. Eric Jay Rosser.
