Poughkeepsie man sentenced to 20 years to life for kidnapping and attempted robbery

Prosecutors say Derrick Woodhouse abducted Grethen Mungia and the children at knifepoint.

A Poughkeepsie man has been sentenced to 20 years to life after his conviction for kidnapping and attempted robbery of a pregnant woman and two minor children in her custody.
Prosecutors say Derrick Woodhouse abducted Grethen Mungia and the children at knifepoint. He approached Mungia's vehicle while the two children were seated in the backseat and held a knife to her stomach.
Woodhouse threatened to hurt the children and ordered Mungia to drive to an ATM and withdraw money.
The defendant demanded the money, but when Mungia accidentally dropped her wallet and the cash, Woodhouse left the vehicle.
Following an investigstion, Woodhouse was arrested the following day.
