Angry postal workers gathered in White Plains Thursday to picket the U.S. Postal Service?s plan to shut down 139 sorting facilities across the country.
None of the facilities to be shut down are in Westchester. However, Frank Fanelli, president of the Mount Vernon Local 51, says they want residents to know that the consolidation of branches across the country could affect service everywhere.
Postal workers say residents can see the effects with longer lines, less mailboxes on the streets and the need for people to travel out of their neighborhoods to meet their mailing needs.
