A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for swinging a hammer toward a woman in a Port Jervis home in December 2022.
Officials say the woman's 18-year-old son rushed to his mom's side, while Shawn Beach hit him in the head with a hammer, fracturing his skull.  The son was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but survived.
Beach was convicted in August for the attempted murder. This is the second violent felony that Beach has been convicted for.
He had a prior one in 2003.
