Taxi cab drivers went back to work Thursday night - for now.
The cabbies have been on strike for a week protesting a village proposal to establish a Taxi and Limousine Commission that would govern their operation.
Cabbies agreed to work though the weekend, but hold meetings Monday to hammer out a final agreement. The drivers' contracts expire Monday.
After a public hearing Thursday night, officials say it's likely the commission led by local authorities will be established.
Steven Neilson, president of the local taxi drivers association, says the drivers are willing to comply with background checks, drug testing and having a process to deal with the riders' grievances.
