A popular pet store in Ossining is relocating because it can no longer afford the rent.
Ron Garvin, owner of Choice Pets, says competition from major pet stores has forced the shop to raise the prices of their own products, which has made it difficult to keep up with the cost of rent.
The pet store has a wide variety of pets including reptiles, hamsters, chinchillas, ferrets and fish.
Garvin has been working for Choice Pets for 33 years. He says he started volunteering when he was 11 years old and eventually bought the establishment.
"I don't really want to go,” says employee Melissa Prezioso. “I feel horrible leaving this community because it’s a fabulous community."
Choice Pets will be moving to the Beak Shopping Center in Peekskill, but has no set move-in date.
