Police: Yonkers DPW worker escapes sanitation truck that caught on fire

Police say the worker noticed smoke coming from the engine around 8:30 a.m. while he was on Stew Leonard Drive just north of Ridge Hill Mall.

A Yonkers DPW worker managed to escape a city sanitation truck that caught on fire early Friday morning.
Police say the worker noticed smoke coming from the engine around 8:30 a.m. while he was on Stew Leonard Drive just north of Ridge Hill Mall. He then stopped and exited the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.
Yonkers fire crews quickly put out the fire, according to authorities.
Police say there is an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
