A 78-year-old woman was fatally stabbed inside a Poughkeepsie home Monday, police say.

Poughkeepsie police say they were called for a possible stabbing around 1:15 p.m. on Oak Crescent.

"It was literally like an episode of "Law & Order," like everyone was all over the place," says Carlos Marzano, who lives nearby.

When officers got there, they found the woman inside the home. She died a short time later.

"It's the textbook, I never thought it would happen," Marzano tells News 12.

One person was detained in connection to the stabbing, according to police officials.

Police say there is no danger to the public. They do not believe the attack was random.

This incident is the third stabbing within three days in Poughkeepsie.

The first one happened very early Saturday morning near the corner of Main Street and Crannell Street. A man was found with multiple stab wounds, according to the city PBA. He is expected to recover.

On Saturday night, a 51-year-old man was stabbed on Cannon Street. He died from his injuries.

Police haven't released his name, but friends of the victim say he was a good man.

"We'd make a point to run into each other to make sure each of us was OK," says Debbie Dionysius, who was friends with the victim.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the Saturday night stabbing.

Police say the three stabbings over the last three days are not connected.

Anyone with information on any of these stabbings are urged to call police.
