A New Windsor woman has admitted to assaulting an officer during a traffic stop last March, according to Ulster County District Attorney Emmanual Nneji.

Prosecutors say the officer tried to stop Lucia Costa for driving while intoxicated on March 22, 2023. Costa drove off leading police on a high-speed chase. When officers caught up to her, she allegedly spat and kicked officers sending one officer to the hospital with a shoulder injury.

Costa was taken to the hospital after banging her head on the bench at the police station. She tested for alcohol twice the legal limit and weed.

This is the second time Costa has been charged with assaulting an officer. She will be sentenced on April 2.
