A teen was killed and a woman injured in a stabbing incident in Mount Vernon, according to police.
Police say the two were stabbed on Prospect and Gramatan avenues around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Police say the woman was taken to the hospital to be treated. They say the teenager was a student at the Davis STEAM Academy in the Mount Vernon School District.
"I'm horrified by the whole thing, and I just hope that the people who did it get caught and punished," says Lori McFarlane, of Mount Vernon.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard says the district will have services available to students through the weekend.
The stabbing comes on the same day as the city held a parade for the boys high school basketball team, for winning the state championship. Sources close to the investigation say the two people were stabbed just as celebrations were winding down.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detective Division of the Mount Vernon Police Department or send an anonymous text with the letters MVPD to tip411, that's 847-411.
