Police are searching for suspects in two Westchester communities after a series of attempted smash and grabs.
Yonkers police tell News 12 a group of men tried to get into Papas Gold City Jewelers on Central Avenue in Yonkers on Wednesday afternoon.
The owner didn't want to speak on camera but told News12 he watched on his security cameras as several men wearing dark clothing tried to get inside the store.
Both the owner and police say they believe the men were looking to attempt a smash-and-grab. Luckily, the double security doors kept the alleged would-be thieves from getting in.
The owner says before he could get to the front of the store, the suspects took off in two cars.
Shortly after, a Westchester County Police unit noticed the vehicles in the area of Central Avenue and Mile Square Road and tried to stop them.
Police say one of the cars crashed on Staunton Street and that three suspects ran off.
One person of interest was taken into custody. Police are still searching for the two others.
Meanwhile, the other car was eventually stopped in Larchmont and at least two people were arrested there.
Police say they believe the same group of men also tried an unsuccessful smash-and-grab at Tarrytown Jewelers on Central Avenue in Hartsdale before they tried hitting the Yonkers store.
The case now involves multiple law enforcement agencies.
