Family and friends said their final goodbyes Tuesday to a longtime Crawford police sergeant who suddenly died on the job last week.
Hundreds of people gathered at the William Gagan Funeral Home in Pine Bush for the funeral of Sgt. Eric Meier. His wake was held at the same location on Monday.
Meier, 51, died last Thursday after suffering an apparent heart attack while on duty. Officials say Meier was combing a wooded area for reported marijuana plants during an investigation when he collapsed.
The 25-year veteran was remembered by his fellow officers as a man dedicated to his job, and as someone always there for others.
Flags around town were flown at half-staff in honor of Meier, and a purple and black bunting adorned the Crawford police station.
Meier is survived by his wife and two adult children.
