Police: Queens man raped 13-year-old girl after Smith Haven Mall meetup

A Queens man is under arrest after being accused of raping a 13-year-old girl he met on Snapchat.
Police officials say 30-year-old Andrew Ramsaroop met the teen at Smith Haven Mall back on May 13.
Detectives say Ramsaroop tried to get the teen and her friend into his car, but they refused.
Later in the day, police say Ramsaroop met the teen at a Hauppauge park and raped her. The park is part of the Renaissance Hills apartment complex.
The victim told a school official about the incident, who then called the police.
"Kudos to her to have the courage to report this to someone that is trusted," says Laura Ahearn, executive director of the Crime Victims Center.
She says teens too often give out too much personal information on social media platforms like SnapChat and others and fall victim to predators who may be online pretending to be someone else.
"Parents think that this doesn't happen and it doesn't happen to their children, but it can happen" Ahearn warns. "So insure your teenagers understand not to give out identifiable information online."
Police arrested Ramasoop on Friday and charged him with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
Ramsaroop was arraigned and is being held on $300,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 26.
