Police are investigating a string of burglaries in Harrison in which all the targeted houses have a common link. Officials say the burglaries occurred between last Thursday morning and Monday night. According to police, the thieves hit residences on Columbus and Underhill avenues in Harrison and Barnes Lane in West Harrison.
Police say all of the homes and garden apartments hit had recent home repairs and renovations. None of the homeowners were home at the time of the break-ins.Investigators say in the case of the Underhill Avenue apartment theft, it looks like the suspects walked in the front door. However, police found muddy footprints in the backyard. They believe the burglars handed the stolen electronics out the window and left by the back door.
On Friday, at nearby Columbus Avenue, police say the window of a residence was tampered with. In that instance, the thieves took off with about $50,000 worth of goods. According to police, the Barnes Lane home was hit on Christmas Eve. In that case, a window was broken and the bedroom was ransacked. Police say the suspects made off with some jewelry and about $500 in cash. The homeowners had a burglar alarm that was not turned on.
