Police say John Van Leuven was caught shoplifting at the Home Depot on North Road when an officer tried to stop him.

A Poughkeepsie officer was seriously injured while trying to make an arrest, according to police.
Police say John Van Leuven was caught shoplifting at the Home Depot on North Road when an officer tried to stop him.
Police say Van Leuven, 29, resisted arrest and tried to get away in a random vehicle.
They say Van Leuven then struck two parked cars, jumped over a curb and struck a median and another car all while dragging the officer.
Van Leuven is facing a slew of charges, including assault in the first degree.
