News 12 has learned that a fire chief in Ulster County was arrested on Tuesday.

Sources say Plattekill Fire Chief Robert Betanzos was recently suspended from his volunteer role with the department, and allege he refused to return his department-issued vehicle.

State police confirm Betanzos, 55, was arrested in Gardiner and charged with “unauthorized use of a vehicle” that he had “temporary custody of.”

Officials say Betanzos was released on an appearance ticket.

News 12 reached out to the Plattekill Fire Department and Betanzos but have not heard back yet.
