A Spring Valley police officer is being called a hero for rescuing a firefighter from his burning home.
The fire broke out early Sunday afternoon at a house on Ternure Avenue in Spring Valley.
"I saw the front door open," said Spring Valley Police Officer Marc Miller. "I saw the mother coming to the front door. I ran up to the front door, grabbed her and pulled her out to a safe area."
After he got the woman out, he went back into the house to rescue the man, who has been identified as Richard Bird, a volunteer with the Spring Valley Fire Department.
Miller got Bird out of the house safely, along with the family dog.
The fire is believed to have been accidental.
