Police have confirmed the identity of the victim in Monday’s fatal shooting in New Rochelle.
They say 22-year-old David Smith, of Mount Vernon, was killed at the Heritage Homes townhouse complex on Brook Street shortly before 11 a.m.
The incident started as some kind of dispute between Smith and the group of suspects, police say.
"Officers responded, found a gunshot wound victim there with several gunshot wounds to his chest," says Capt. J. Collins Coyne.
New Rochelle police confirm three suspects have been arrested.
They have been identified as:
Marquis Williamson, 21, of Newark, New Jersey
Amiri Oneal, 21 of Mount Vernon
Anthony Webster, 20 of Mount Vernon
"Community members did help with the calls to the police of the shots and descriptions of people running away," says Capt. Coyne.
Police believe Smith knew the shooter. Authorities have not yet said a motive for the shooting.
"That is really sad, he hadn't even lived life yet," says New Rochelle resident Donnell Ferrell.
People close to Smith say he was a great dad who loved his two kids “with his whole life.”
Police are still looking for at least one more suspect.
The New Rochelle Police Department is asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the detective division at 914-654-2300.
