Officials say a dispute over a borrowed car between two friends became physical and landed both of them in handcuffs.
The fight broke out just after 4 p.m. Thursday on Circuit Road in New Rochelle. Police say 52-year-old Michelle Rice and 62-year-old Harold Payne got into an argument in the middle of the street after Payne refused to return a car he had borrowed.
Police say Rice went to retrieve the vehicle when Payne got in front of the car and apparently attempted to dismantle its battery. That's when police say Rice "went forward and knocked him down."
Rice is charged with aggravated assault and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Payne suffered a broken back in the incident. However, he was also spotted throwing a glass bottle that allegedly contained heroin in a nearby shrub, and is now facing a felony drug possession charge. He has been hospitalized in police custody.
