Police say a Hendrick Hudson High School student was walking near her home in Verplanck Wednesday when she heard a man calling out from a nearby park and believed he was trying to get her to come in.
The incident alarmed her, and she reported it to a parent and then to police.
Westchester County police say the incident was a misunderstanding involving a man who was trying to retrieve his dog.
Officers spoke with people in the park and located the man who fit the description provided by the student and who lives nearby.
Officers determined that the man’s dog had run away from him and he was calling out in an effort to get the dog to come back to him.
