Police: Man killed in New Paltz shooting; son also dead
Police in Ulster County say a father and son are dead after gunfire rang out in New Paltz.
It began at the New Paltz Plaza on Route 299 in New Paltz around 11 a.m. Saturday.
Officers arrived at the scene to find 58-year-old Andrew Kaartine from Orange County unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A car was seen speeding away from the scene and a deputy spotted the vehicle on the New York State Thruway. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the car crashed.
News 12 is told 22-year-old Jeremy Kaartine was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
